Middle Tennessee State basketball player Tina Stewart was stabbed to death in her apartment by her roommate Shanterrica Madden (see pics of Shanterrica Madden below).
Just an awful story, but one that happens far too often in our society.
Police have arrested Shanterrica Madden, an 18-year-old freshman at MTSU, in connection with the stabbing death of Lady Raider basketball player Tina Stewart. Madden is charged with first-degree murder and has been transported to Rutherford County Jail.
“There was an argument,” Murfreesboro Police Spokesman Kyle Evans said. “During that argument, Madden stabbed the victim.”
Evans said Stewart suffered multiple traumatic wounds. An autopsy will be performed, he said, and investigators are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence at Raiders Crossing Apartments to determine what happened.
Stewart, 21, of Memphis, a junior, died as a result of wounds sustained in the attack. She was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, but did not survive her injuries.
There are varying reports about what the argument was about (early speculation is that Stewart confronted Madden about her smoking weed in the apartment, but that isn’t confirmed), but what we do know is that it wasn’t worth anyone losing their life over.
Two young woman who had their entire future in front of them, destroyed by an impulsive and emotional reaction to something in the grand scheme was trivial.
Because Miss Madden could not keep her emotions in check, Tina Stewart is dead and it is unlikely that Madden will be seeing the outside of jail for a long time.
Here is how Shanterrica Madden describe herself on her twitter profile page:
I am a freshman at MTSU. I am a sweetheart to be around and I love my family and friends.
If only she lived up to her profile, I wouldn’t have had to write this story this evening.
This goes for anyone, young or old. Think before you react, there is no second chances when you are talking about death.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Tina Stewart and Shanterrica Madden, because her family is going to suffer the burden of her actions for a very long time.
