***Vanity Fair columnist Christopher Hitchens talks about his battle against cancer on “60 Minutes” this weekend. Hitchens has stage four esophageal cancer, and he notes there is no stage five. “I am a member of a cancer elite. I rather look down on people with lesser cancers,” he tells Steve Kroft.
Hitchens talks frankly about his battle: His father died of the same type of cancer. “But the statistics are 5 percent [survival rate], in other words, which are not the odds I would have picked,” he says.
CBS News bills Hitchens as “America’s most famous atheist,” and he discusses his bracing criticism of Mother Teresa and Princess Diana. You can see “60 Minutes” at 7 p.m. Sunday on WKMG-Channel 6. The program also features a haunting story about homeless children in Central Florida.
