Sirius XM radio goes with new edition of channels
Starting today, subscribers to the original Sirius or XM will be seeing their programming consolidated into one single lineup.
The new edition of channels follows the current Sirius lineup more closely. According to Kicking Tires, Howard Stern shows remain on channels 100 and 101.
Channel changes include Sirius XM Hits 1 moving to channel 2, and E Street Radio, the Bruce Springsteen network, moving to channel 20.
Hip-Hop Nation will now be found on channel 44, and The Heat will move to channel 47.
Sirius and XM merged in 2008, and subscribers have been able to listen to programming from both services.
“We’re making many of the channel numbers consistent whether you have a Sirius or an XM radio,” Sirius XM said in a statement, according to the Long Island Press. “Now customers will only have to remember a single channel number for their favorite programming.”
The new lineup should have updated automatically for subscribers on Wednesday.
SiriusXM now has over 20 million paid subscribers according to first quarter 2011 results. CEO Mel Karmazin told the Hollywood Reporter that makes Sirius XM one of the largest subscription businesses in the world. He said they would have increased the company’s subscriber target goal of 1.4 million for 2011 if it wasn't for uncertainty following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which may yet lead to supply issues for automakers.
Sirius XM’s total subscriber numbers have fallen behind the 22.8 million U.S. subscribers that Netflix had reported as its first quarter totals.
