The government gave you three extra days to get your taxes done this year, but if you like to live on the edge, here’s what you need to know:
- File electronically at irs.gov for convenience and faster refunds. Be sure to file for an automatic six-month extension if you still can’t get it together.
- Columbia-area post offices will not be open extra hours for procrastinators. They stopped that practice nearly a decade ago as many taxpayers turned to online filing.
- Most branches close between 4:30 and 5 p.m. But check usps.gov for more information on your local branch. If you must make the mad dash, the latest possible pickup in the Columbia area is at 7 p.m. at 2930 Emanuel Church Road in West Columbia.
